Interviews: Reflections on One Year of KIN Through the Eyes of Seven Key Figures

KIN was established through the dedication of a group of passionate scientists, administrators, and advisors. How do they look back on the past year? Has KIN become what they envisioned, or not?

We spoke with seven key figures who have been involved with KIN from the very beginning: Michiel van den Hout, Sanli Faez, Jan de Boer, Heleen de Coninck, Linda Steg, Martijn Bart, and Gerard van der Steenhoven. In this online magazine, they share their reflections on KIN’s foundation, its growth, the current state of affairs, and their hopes for the future of KIN.

KIN Anniversary Magazine: Celebrating One Year of KIN Today!

Hooray, KIN Turns One! On 1 November 2024, KIN celebrates its first anniversary! In November 2023, we officially opened our doors. Since then, the tremendous efforts of our colleagues, Pact partners, and the many individuals involved in our projects and workshops have brought us to where we are today—and that is no small feat.

We are marking this milestone with a special digital anniversary magazine. The magazine reflects on and evaluates what we have achieved over the past year, featuring insights from those who have contributed to KIN’s journey. Founding members share their thoughts, and we highlight some of our most significant activities.

Looking Back at the Third Make-aton: Connections and Cross-Pollination for a Climate-Resilient Netherlands

On 17 October, experts, policymakers, and scientists gathered for the third and final session in the first Make-aton series within the National Climate Adaptation Strategy (NAS). After months of intensive work (starting with Make-aton 1 + 2 and continuing over the summer by the core team), this was an important meeting. The various adaptation pathways developed in previous sessions were refined, and the interconnections between challenges were mapped. It was a day full of interaction, new insights, and above all, collaboration.

The Make-atons through the eyes of IenW project leader Chantal Oudkerk Pool

In less than a month, it will already be time for the third and final Make-aton, which we are organizing in collaboration with the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management (IenW) for the National Climate Adaptation Strategy (NAS). Around 70 people will be present to provide feedback on the adaptation pathways developed by the core team. This is not the end, however; the deadline for delivering the final Make-aton product is set for October 31.

With that milestone in sight, we look back on the previous Make-atons and the summer in which the core team worked hard to create these adaptation pathways. But how has the lead of the NAS revision experienced the process so far? Chantal Oudkerk Pool shares her story in this blog.
