Are you an artist, designer, maker and/or creative thinker with a keen view of
the world, a strong affinity for social transitions and the drive to help shape
systemic change from inside-out? The Dutch Climate Research Initiative (KIN) is
looking for an artist to join our team.
About KIN
The KIN aims to accelerate transitions towards a climate neutral and climate
resilient society. These transitions take place on a fundamental and systemic
levels, for which transdisciplinairy collaboration is essential. We believe that
system change is not only technical or policy-related, but also cultural,
emotional and imaginative. To really think and act differently, we need artists:
designers, makers, thinkers and dreamers who help us imagine other futures
and change our narratives of what might be.
What you will do
As an artist, designer and/or creative maker you will be involved in specific KIN
projects. From your creative input you will contribute to the strategy,
development and results of these projects. You will work transdisciplinary with
the KIN team and build bridges to the broader cultural and social field. You use
your expertise and creative power at the frontline of systemic change.
What we are looking for
- You ask sharp, creative and unexpected questions that expose blind spots
- You develop and facilitate creative sessions, workshops and participatory
processes. - You bring in alternative narratives and perspectives and help translate these
into policy - You act as the secretary of the Art and Climate working group within the KIN
Pact and fulfill a pivotal role within the KIN community - You contribute to building a creative network around the KIN, building
bridges to both the KIN community (other working groups), and the broader
ecosystem of climate transitions - You stimulate that more artists, designers, makers and creative thinkers are
connected to KIN pathways and working groups and identify with them what is
needed to achieve this - You collect and share inspiring examples, in order to transfer the added value
of art, imagination and creativity in and from the KIN - You work with policy makers and other partners to increase the impact of the
KIN in society
You recognize yourself in these aspects:
- An active practice as an artist, designer, maker or creative booster
– A broad and relevant network within the creative/cultural sector
– Experience with transdisciplinary work
– Experience or affinity with social transitions, sustainability and policy
– A proactive, curious, inquisitive attitude and willingness to collaborate with
other domains
– You are comfortable with uncertainty and see opportunities where others
see limitations
– You can switch between conceptual thinking and concrete implementation.

members of the Art and Climate working group - Freelance assignment with remuneration in accordance with the Fair Practice
Code for 1 day a week, in line with the university CAO, scale 10-11, indication
salary 3500-4500 /month based on 38 hrs (fulltime) - Assignment with start as soon as possible for a duration of 12 months
After 9 months, another artist in resident will start to transfer the built-up
knowledge and network and ensure continuity.
