When KIN funds projects, supports workshops, events or KIN Pact activities, it not only facilitates the impact these initiatives set out for, it also triggers wider, stranger effects. Some are indirect – maybe an idea or encounter you wouldn’t have had otherwise – some are really small or difficult to grasp – like a thought or feeling that keeps returning.
These types of impact don’t reach reports, but they are real. And we want to hear them!

More about the hotline
KIN was founded three years ago with a bold mission: to accelerate climate transitions through innovative, experimental and meaningful research. This mission calls for equally bold and experimental approaches to reflecting on and understanding impact.
The hotline for intangible impact is a low-threshold intervention that invites reflection on the felt effects of KIN-funded projects and KIN-enabled activities. It aims to collect short, anonymous testimonies, personal anecdotes and fleeting reflections – the type of stories that don’t make it into conventional reports, but can only be captured through oral history – or perhaps through brief voice messages.
By experimenting with new ways of listening, of reflecting and valuing, the aim is to reveal the experienced value of collaborations and projects that KIN has made possible – and thus of KIN itself – and which may otherwise be overlooked. These insights will be used to inform KIN’s evaluation in November, reflecting on what broader forms of impact it has enabled and how and why it should continue to finance transformative climate research.
What is “intangible impact”?
Intangible impact is the ripple effect you wouldn’t think to report. It’s the story you’d tell a colleague over coffee, but which might feel too disconnected, too strange, too personal, small or quiet. Or just too hard to explain on paper. It’s a thought that keeps returning, a conversation that shifted your perspective or a connection that sparked something unexpected. Maybe it’s a role you grew into or a habit you shed. It’s the kind of change that defies spreadsheets and KPIs, but lingers because it impacted you in a deep, unexpected way, or even in ways that you’re still uncovering.

- the rough theme of your story (Note: These themes aren’t rigid boxes. Think of them as starting points, or anchors in a sea of the intangible, the unexpected, or the deeply personal. Answer using your intuition.)

How to prepare?
Think back to your experience with KIN. What kind of effect did it have? What stayed with you – be it small or feel insignificant or strange – that’s the story we want! If you can, think of a concrete example, moment or situation.
Tip: Not sure what to say or how to say it? That’s ok. Try practicing your story with a friend or colleague. It doesn’t have to be perfect!
Before calling, take a quick moment to think:
- Is your story a complaint, tip or reflection?
- Is it about:
– an opportunity (Is it about a chance to create an impact that you took, missed or didn’t expect?)
– a connection (Is it about a relationship that was formed, ended or left an impression?)
– a personal shift (Is it about a new perspective, role, insight or realisation that hasn’t left you?)
– other (Is it about something else completely?)
This will make your experience smoother.
What next?
Contributions will be treated anonymously. In the coming weeks a team of independent researchers will review and analyse all audio submissions. The team will identify novel, unexpected and unusual notions of impact, and how these are articulated. 20-30 representative submissions will be selected, any potential sensitive information redacted and will be shared with the KIN evaluation committee. These findings will be used to create a comprehensive overview of the various kinds of perceived, observed, and experienced impact that KIN has enabled in recent years through its interactions, activities, and projects. The insights will be compiled into a report for KIN’s evaluation, highlighting the effects KIN has had and how it may preserve or nurture this intangible impact in the future.
Deadline: the hotline will close on 18th of October
Make sure to call as soon as possible and share the hotline with colleagues or collaborators! Multiple submissions are accepted as long as they are different stories or point to different forms of impact.
