Theme

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time, but it receives little attention in the current education curriculum. Teachers indicate that they do not have sufficient time and expertise to develop effective climate education themselves. The Education and Training working group is therefore working on an online platform that provides access to teaching materials on climate change. The materials are based on current scientific insights and are aligned with existing core objectives and exam programmes.

The aim of the platform is to provide teachers with practical teaching materials, ranging from short lesson interventions to complete lesson series, and didactic support. This lowers the threshold for teachers to include climate education in their lessons and increases the relevance and quality of climate education in the Netherlands.

Teachers, subject didactics experts, curriculum developers and scientists are setting up the platform together with the working group. They are also testing it to ensure that it is well suited to practical use. The aim is to create a sustainable infrastructure that makes up-to-date and scientifically based teaching materials accessible to all teachers.
