Making a radical transition towards Planetary Health as a new way of thinking and acting. This was the focus of the KIN Crutzen workshop as part of the ‘Transition to Planetary Health’ programme, held on 14 April at Kanaal30 in Utrecht.
When we think about human health, the ecological perspective is often still missing. Yet the direct and indirect consequences of climate change are becoming increasingly evident in our health as well as in the health of our living environment. It is therefore vital that a change of course takes place, whereby the health of people, ecology and the planet are organised in such a way that they not only remain within planetary boundaries but also strengthen ecological systems.
During the Crutzen workshop, in which a large group of experts from academia and practice worked together to identify barriers in our current system and highlight opportunities, it became clear once again just how immense this task is. Lively discussions, inspiring insights and critical contributions set the tone during the workshop. The transition requires an integrated approach, justice, personal commitment and investment, as well as a new narrative as a starting point and the courage to challenge existing patterns and beliefs.
This Crutzen workshop was the final meeting in the run-up to the KIN Knowledge in Action agenda for this programme. The call for applications will go live in early June.
