The HitteLab Rotterdam is a learning community focused on (urban) heat. Through the HitteLab, Rotterdam knowledge institutions, the Municipal Health Service (GGD) and the Municipality of Rotterdam are combining their field labs and measurement infrastructures, research projects and partnerships. The HitteLab aims to establish an accessible, reciprocal and structural way of collaborating, researching and exchanging knowledge on heat issues in Rotterdam that affect the health of residents, buildings and public spaces.

The basis of the HeatLab is a transdisciplinary (graduation) workshop that tackles issues from local practice. By supervising graduation projects, the HeatLab Rotterdam is building a learning community where policy, research and practice continuously meet.

Rotterdam Heat Booklet

This publication by the working group brings together insights on heat stress and heat policy in Rotterdam. It is not an exhaustive overview, but a broad representation of current issues and what we encounter in practice, ranging from short-term student research projects to multi-year scientific research programmes. The booklet is intended to share knowledge and inspire, and is aimed at researchers, policymakers and practitioners — and anyone who is involved in or interested in tackling urban heat stress.
