Food plays a crucial role in the climate transition. Yet not all groups in society benefit equally from sustainability efforts within the food system. For people with a low income or a migration background, healthy and sustainable choices are often less accessible. How can we ensure a food transition that serves all residents?

The Network for Accessible Food Communities brings together researchers, local initiatives and policymakers to reduce inequality within the food system. They work on new forms of collaboration, knowledge exchange and policy influence that connect to the everyday realities of residents and communities.

The network focuses on making existing practices visible, strengthening local food communities and placing inclusive food transition more prominently on the public agenda. In doing so, it helps create space for initiatives that combine sustainability with social justice.

Workshop on the topic of ‘Affordability’ – June 24, 2026

On Wednesday, June 24, there will be a workshop on the theme of ‘Affordability.’

The session will address questions such as:
– What types of financing are suitable for your initiative?
– What are the consequences and on whom will you become dependent?
– How do you find a balance that is sustainable for both the community and the gardener/farmer?
– How do you ensure that healthy and sustainable choices aren’t just for people with more resources?

This Community of Practice is for anyone working towards a fair food transition — whether you run a local food initiative, conduct research or work in policy. Join us and share your experiences!

📅Wednesday, June 24 | 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM
📍Mensa Mensa Zuidoost Amsterdam | located at Brasa Village, Heidotistraat 177, 1102 LD Amsterdam
