Network for Climate-resilient Sandy Soils: connecting research and practice

This network brings together researchers, policymakers and practitioners who are working on climate-resilient solutions for sandy soils in the southern and eastern Netherlands.

Duration

april 2025

Location

The Netherlands (nationwide)

Parties involved

HAS green academy, Wageningen Universiteit, Het Pon en Telos, Provincie Noord-Brabant

Sandy soils cover a large part of the Netherlands and are crucial for agriculture, nature and water management. Climate change is increasing pressure on these areas: prolonged drought, water shortages and declining soil quality pose major challenges for farmers, authorities and nature managers.

The Network for Climate-resilient Sandy Soils brings together regional initiatives, scientists and policymakers. Its aim is to stimulate knowledge exchange, connect experiments and develop shared pathways for solutions. Central to this is the question: how do we make sandy soils climate-resilient in a way that does justice to the local context?

The network organises meetings, field visits and working sessions in which current insights are shared and new collaborations emerge. By strengthening the connection between research and practice, the network contributes to sustainable solutions that can be scaled to other regions.

Climate-Resilient Sandy Soils Network Day – 1 June 2026

In 2026, the Knowledge Network Climate-Resilient Sandy Soils will be launched: a network in which researchers, policymakers and professionals from the field work together on future-proof sandy soils.

The first network day will take place on Monday, June 1, 2026, at the Netherlands Water Museum in Arnhem.

During this network day, knowledge, practical experience and questions from the field come together. The program focuses on current topics such as drought, the sponge function of sandy soils, area-oriented working and the connection between research and practice. The day consists of inspiring plenary sessions, interactive workshops and plenty of opportunities to network and explore new collaborations.

The network day is intended for anyone professionally involved with climate-resilient sandy soils, such as professionals from water boards, provinces, municipalities, consultancy firms, knowledge institutions and social organizations.
